Dear reader,
Take a seat. Turn off your phone–or at least close all your apps except the one you’re using to read this right now. I’d like to take a very short break with you from the chaos to share some news from the world of repair.
In this Aries issue: I, as a Repair World reporter, visit the fire house immediately across from Wrigley Stadium to chat with firefighters about repair. Just like astronauts, firefighters are stuck doing a lot of odd jobs as needed. And when you are working in a 100+ year old building, a lot of odd repair jobs pop up. I also wax political about NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s efforts to market the very important work of maintenance through a March Madness-style municipal repair bracket.
Taylor covers some past Jeopardy repair questions (of note for future contestants: repair of the Hubble Space telescope comes up a lot) and the curious case of what happens when a Texan takes a banjo to Wall Street’s Bull.
We hope you enjoy, and as always, if you’d like to submit a piece of your own, shoot us an email or an instagram DM! We’re always accepting contributions for future issues.
Yours in in a state of continual repair,
Stu Davison
P.S. For all the fellow chess nerds in the audience, I hope you’re enjoying the Candidates. I was considering pulling together a piece about repairing pawn structure in a chess game, but I’m not nearly as much of a positional player as I would like to think I am.
